17" wheels (noun) - okay for a mini, to small for a full size
18" wheels (noun) - okay for a full size. killer for minis
20" wheels (noun) - bad ass on a mini (if you can make it fit and still lay). killer for most full sizes
22" wheels (noun) - bad ass on a full size (make sure your truck lays). probably too much for minis
24" wheels (noun) - use to be too big for anything, but bitchin on anything bodydropped and laid out without the tires coming through the hood or bedsides.
4"-6" drop (noun) - not really cool, maybe okay for a tow vehicle... actually not okay for any truck (see sissy or scared)
airbags (noun) - the best way to build an adjustable suspension
bodydrop (noun) - lowering the body of a vehicle so it rests where it belongs, on the ground
can't (adv.) - cannot as in "cannot be done", ignored by people who know, used by people who don't know or people who are scared
cca (noun) - can't cut anything. (mechanics + bodywork= some ugly ass rides)
Chevy (noun) - probably the most common of the custom trucks Fairly easy to work on and always look good customized
chop tops (noun) - bad ass if done correctly, Fail if not done well
classic (adj.) - older car or truck, usually pre-1975, these can be bad ass if they are low enough
clear taillights (noun) - cop magnet. you might as well haul around donuts in your bed
cleave (adj.) - To make or accomplish by or as if by cutting. If it won't fit, cleave it
custom (noun) - something not stock. better than stock, the reason to own a truck
Dodge (noun) - not very many done. plan on extra work doing customizing on a Dodge. Hard to work on and hard to find parts for
drag (verb) - something railing on the ground, usually bad ass
fabricator (noun) - someone who builds something. good fabricators aren't scared and don't fail
fail (noun) - everything that sucks
Ford (noun) - harder than a Chevy to customize. Look very good layed out. Ford's are gaining popularity on the Chevy dominated west coast.
graphics (noun) - multi- colored paint in specific patterns bad ass if done well; Fail if done poorly
hoodstick (noun) - "You know the stick that is used to hold the hood" (Courtesy of Joe M with the bagged Audi)
hopping (verb) - fast adjustable suspension which allow the tires to leave the ground. Borderline Fail....be careful
hydraulics (noun) - oil, dead batteries, broken parts, high maintenance. not usually recommended
Isuzu (noun) - an extension of Chevy's S-10. builds just like it's Chevy brother and looks good low
killer (adj.) - anything bad ass
lay (verb) - to set your truck on the ground. If it doesn't lay, it fails
low (adj.) - necessary on all vehicles, see definition of rail, make sure yours is enough
lowrider (adj.) - flake paint jobs, fade aways, wire wheels, hopping springs, hydros, tuck & roll
Mazda (noun) - the new ones are Ford's brother and build like a Ford, the older Mazda's are very popular but the six lug rims sucked
negative camber - tires leaning in from being straight. causes; vehicle lowered or slammed.
Nissan (noun) - hard bodies were pretty popular. these trucks tend to be somewhat square. if you like that look, this truck is probably the one for you
nitrogen (noun) - used to make airbag systems faster. Vehicles can hop fairly easily with Nitrogen. Same results as Carbon Dioxide (co2)
permanent convertible - kind of old school, maybe not cool........be careful
phantom top (noun) - material covering cab roof; old school, Fail
rag top (noun) - opening in roof covered by a sliding material cover considered killer by most
rail (verb) - to drag any part of frame or body on the ground
rules (adj.) - killer or bad ass. A truck that is built right
scared (adj.) - someone afraid of being too low
sissy (adj.) - one who is afraid, also one who fails (see fail)
sticky outies (noun) - tires that extend beyond the fenders and don't tuck (also see fail)
suicide doors (noun) - old school. still considered bad ass if done correctly (doors should swing into jamb like factory and not out like barn doors)
tilt bed (noun) - old school. 80's minitruck style
Toyota (noun) - very popular minis for years. not as popular as they used to be. fairly easy to work on and they are great mechanically
tucking (adj.) - when your wheels fit inside your fender wells instead of outside of them
tweed (noun) - okay in moderation, Fail when used in large quantities
wing-ting-tang (verb) - tuners attempting to be a muscle car, piping The Modshop as they drive by and annoying the shit out of everyone around. (see also cca)
wires (noun) - Dayton's or other wheels that use wire spokes to carry the hoop. probably okay for lowriders
sectioning (verb) - body mod consisting of removing material and shortening the panel. sectioning whole vehicles may be one of the hardest custom modifications to complete.
